Unleash Your EMDR: The Basics of Advanced Attachment-Informed Integrative EMDR

September 27, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm MDT

September 28, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm MDT

Transform Your EMDR Practice: Learn Attachment-Informed EMDR with Mark Brayne

Welcome to a unique opportunity to learn directly from Mark Brayne, a leading authority in the world of EMDR and the creator of Attachment-Informed EMDR. The Unleash Your EMDR training will allow you to improve your work with clients who suffer not only from trauma but also from repeated attachment wounds in their childhood. This training is a game changer for EMDR therapists who want to take their EMDR practice to the next level.

If you’ve ever felt stuck with EMDR, and how to use it for real with complex and challenging clients (even the outwardly simple ones), this training is for you.

Over two days in person in Denver (Friday-Saturday September 27-28, 2024) Mark and Jutta Brayne from EMDR Focus in the UK will present what they propose as a game-changing approach to practical, effective EMDR that can work with almost any presentation that comes through your therapy room.

With 12 EMDRIA CE credits, this training will cover the principles of Mark’s Unleash Your EMDR online trainings, introducing integrative, advanced, and transpersonal tools for what is best understood as attachment-informed complexity – what might be termed the “signal” within the “noise” that all clients bring to therapy.

Bringing special focus to case conceptualization and target identification, with radical curiosity around how childhood developmental issues play into adult distress, Attachment-Informed (the “other” AI-) EMDR builds on the fundamental architecture of EMDR’s Standard Protocol, as well as on the Attachment-Focused teachings of Laurel Parnell with whom Mark worked closely for many years.

However, it takes things further, embracing also the intergenerational and dreams, which will be covered at least in brief on day two of what will be powerful and profound in-person time together.

One testimonial from Mark’s latest workshop:

I have taken away an empowering sense of liberation from the constraints of what had felt for me too mechanistic in the standard protocol. I am feeling thoroughly enthused about working with AI-EMDR in ways that fit perfectly within the way I like to work – relational, creative, and transpersonal. I have come away from the weekend feeling that I’m bringing EMDR home with me.

There will be two live session demonstrations, and also space to test-drive these new skills in triads – although given the constraints of time, participants may wish to take this work further to consolidate the learnings in continued online spaces with EMDR Focus and The EMDR Learning Community platforms.

Running since 2017, EMDR Focus workshops are open to therapists already familiar with basic EMDR protocols.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to apply the principles of attachment-informed Case Conceptualization significantly to enhance EMDR’s effectiveness with complexity, specifically by using ‘radical curiosity’ and proactive bridging to identify and target clients’ maladaptive narratives, in the context not just of trauma but primarily of formative early-life experiences.
  • Participants will be able to describe the architecture of Attachment-Informed EMDR sessions; the “Charlie Chaplin” mnemonic starting with Case Conceptualization (CC), and ending with Session Structure (SS). They will also utilize the metaphor of the DeLorean as a vehicle taking the therapy back into and again out of the client’s formative past.
  • Participants will learn to apply extended transpersonal interweaves in EMDR’s Phase Four (Reveal, Repair, Rewire), identifying their pivotal role in proactive rewiring that is balanced with Adaptive Information Processing (AIP). They will use careful pacing, navigating space between staying out of the way or pressing too early for resolution, thus ensuring deep, transformative healing.
  • Participants will be able to identify and target intergenerational trauma internalized both experientially in childhood and epigenetically. They will be able to understand and work therapeutically with both the internalized parent or primary attachment figure from childhood and the collective trauma experience that goes with a client’s ethnic/religious/ national/cultural/group identity.
  • Participants will learn how to unpack dreams and their meaning as a portal into the developmental networks where the client’s trauma is so often stored. This part of the workshop couples the structure, focus, and tools of EMDR to embrace an essentially Jungian/transpersonal understanding of Dreams, as what Freud called the Royal Road to the Unconscious.
