EMDR Has Several Advantages

  • Evidence-based: EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and has been found to be effective in treating a variety of psychological issues, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. It is recommended as a first-line treatment for PTSD by numerous organizations, including the World Health Organization and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Time-limited: EMDR therapy can often be completed in a relatively short amount of time compared to other types of psychotherapy. The length of treatment varies based on the individual’s specific needs.
  • Non-invasive: EMDR therapy is a non-invasive treatment approach that does not require the use of medication or other invasive interventions.
  • Person-centered: EMDR therapy is a person-centered approach that is tailored to each individual’s specific needs and experiences. The therapist works collaboratively with the client to identify and process the specific memories or experiences that are causing distress.
  • Trauma-focused: EMDR therapy is particularly effective in treating trauma-related issues, including PTSD. The therapy aims to help the individual process and resolve traumatic memories and turn psychological memories to objective memories.

Talking is not enough

Most traumas and deep emotions are stored in the nonverbal structures of our brains. These brain areas have a distinct language, different from our verbal language. Trying to talk about trauma, in most cases, leads to mediocre results. Our goal is to help you *resolve* your trauma.

How does it work?

Generally speaking, our brains can be divided into three brain areas. The thinking brain, the feeling brain, and the sensing brain. While most therapies focus on one or two of these areas, EMDR therapy activates all three areas of the brain, to maximize therapeutic outcomes.
Therapy is effective when it produces neurological changes in the brain. When brain cells change their activation patterns, neural networks start the process of integration. Therefore, therapy produces the most sustainable results when it changes the brain.
Why Eye Movements?
The same mechanism that happens in the brain druing REM sleep is activated during EMDR therapy and facilitates a natural healing mechanism.
